Day Without Plastic Bags
April 18, 2009

The West Lafayette Go Greener Commission announces a Day Without Plastic Bags on April 18, 2009. We will give away reusable shopping bags at three locations in West Lafayette: Kroger Payless supermarket, Marsh supermarket, and Wal Mart.

Each year shoppers in the U. S. use over 100 billion plastic shopping bags. These bags have a useful life of about 1 hour and then they hang around for hundreds of years. They are a major source of litter, they harm wildlife, and they require resources and energy to manufacture. Celebrate the beginning of the week of Earth Day by vowing not to use disposable plastic bags. Stop by one of our locations to pick up your free reusable bag between the hours of 10:00 am and 4 pm.
